Lent 2018

Lent - A time to PRAY, FAST and GIVE

As we enter into the holy season of Lent, we recommit ourselves to prayer, fasting and alms giving.  Our Faith Formation Team has set the following guidelines for the celebration of Lent at our school.

  • Snack and ice cream will not be served on Fridays. Children will be encouraged to donate money to Catholic Relief Services.

  • Lenten service projects will include collecting items and making Easter cards for the homebound or disabled.

  • Teachers will encourage each child to pray for a special friend or someone in need of our prayers.

  • Holy week will include the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a hunger awareness luncheon of grilled cheese and tomato soup, a day of prayer when buddies meet, and the Passion Play.

  • National Junior Honor Society members will read Lenten words of the day in the morning.

  • Each class will be given a rice bowl. Any student who wants their own rice bowl to take home can receive one.

  • Prayer tables have a purple cloth on them.  Purple is the liturgical color for Lent.

  • Classes are encouraged to pray the Stations of the Cross and make visits to the Chapel.

  • Each classroom will have a purple cross displayed in the door window.  This will remind us to pray with and for each other during this season.

NYS Catholic Conference
arrowsNew York State Catholic Conference
The New York State Legislature has returned from their President’s week break and is moving forward in earnest with state budget negotiations. In addition to considering the tax benefits of the newly expanded 529 plans, lawmakers are also considering whether they can restore the “instructional time” standard in Mandated Services Reimbursement. If we don’t fight to restore this well-established standard, our schools will see a cut in their much needed reimbursement.
