Pre-K 1 Mrs. Alejandro

October Newsletter

Our first ELA and literacy unit, All About Me, will start this week and will last about four weeks.  During this unit, we will be learning about what makes us special, the different parts of our body, our five senses, and our basic needs.

Some of the ELA standards that we will cover are:

-Students will interact with a variety of common types of texts (storybooks, poems, songs).

-With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about details in a text.

-Recognize and name some upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet, especially those in own name.

-Print some upper and lowercase letters (letters in their name).

We will continue our first math module for the next few weeks.

The standards we will cover are:

-Know number names and the count sequence.

-Count to tell the number of objects.

-Understand simple patterns.

-Sort objects and count the number of objects in each category.

For science, we will study autumn.  We will observe what happens as the season progresses and the changes we see.

In religion, we will be discussing and practicing ways that we can be kind.  We are doing a great job with our prayers, the Sign of the Cross, Our Father, and Bless Us O Lord (prayer before meals).

During social studies, we will talk about Halloween.  We will tell each other how we celebrate with our families and we will celebrate together as a class.
